We are a disability-led network in Somalia, empowering persons with disabilities through inclusion, advocacy, and opportunity.
Hirshabelle Disability Network (HDN) is a membership-based, non-governmental, and non-profit organization founded in Hirshabelle State of Somalia with the mission of transforming the lives of persons with disabilities (PWDs). Rooted in the principle of “nothing about us without us,” HDN is led by persons with lived experiences of disability, ensuring that our strategies and interventions reflect the real needs, priorities, and aspirations of the communities we serve.
Social stigma, limited accessibility, poverty, and weak institutional frameworks compound their challenges. Against this backdrop, HDN was established as a collective voice to break down barriers, promote rights, and champion inclusion.
In Somalia and particularly in Hirshabelle State—persons with disabilities remain among the most marginalized groups, often excluded from education, employment, healthcare, and decision-making spaces.
Hirshabelle Disability Network works to break barriers and create equal opportunities for persons with disabilities across Somalia. Join us in building a society where dignity and inclusion are for all.
HDN is donor-ready with policies, systems, and proposal-writing expertise in place. We have strong working relationships with:
